Motor Racing

I am aware that 2 persons might not enjoy this post, but, you know it is a sport so, what to do… ;)

Yes, you saw the picture and I imagine some people’s faces :D

Ok, even though China is not very good at this sport (they are still great at all the others :) ), they have a very important circuit, it is called, the “Shangai International Circuit”, the construction cost was 450 million dollars, I let you imagine how this circuit… I am kidding, have a look at the picure below to show you how the track is:

Yes, it is pretty big and tricky, the record was done by Michael Schumacher, do you remember him, the German guy that won everything ;)

Otherwise, I am sorry but there is not really any “known” Chinese motor-racer so I would like you to watch (if you want) a video of a race on this circuit,

enjoy ;)

Chinese Golf

Hi guys,

Today, I am going to talk to you about a sport that is not one of the most known, Golf.

One thing that is important about Chinese Golf is that there is a lot of tournament happening in China, I am going to list them to you:

  • WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai
  • TCL Classics in Sanya on Hainan island
  • the Volvo China Open played in the PRC (People’s Republic of China)
  • the BMW Asian Open played in the PRC (People’s Republic of China)

You must remember one name from the Chinese Golf,  Zhang Lianwei (actually 45 years old).

He is the only Chinese professional to have won 1 European Tour and 5 Asian Tours.

Unfortunately, Wen Jiabao (party secretary) discouraged any trials of building new golf courses.

Chinese Snooker

This sport is not the most famous in China, but still it has some very good players…

Snooker is not a very known name so maybe you know pool or billiard. They look the same but I think the difference is in the table size. Not a real matter. Anyway, this sport was not really took seriously in China, it is a “recreation sport”. However, slowly it gained people’s interest.

This person is the best player of snooker in China, he is called Ding Junhui.

But what did he do? Firstly, he is ranked 4th. He won a silver medal in Duisburg in 2005, a gold in Busan in 2002, a bronze in 2002 in Busan, a gold in 2006 in Doha, the same year he got 2 gold medals in the sam place… Enough? ;)

As you probably see, I was not lying, he is very young for a professional snooker (23 years old). He might soon, after all this glorious records, one day, become the Snooker World Champion himself ;)

Check out this video to see Ding Junhui playing for UK Championship the 16th November 2008 and maybe discover this new sport! :)

Chinese Baseball

Chinese Baseball has a long and difficult story… Let me tell you the most important facts:

Baseball appeared in Shanghai in 1863 thanks to a missionary, Henry William Boone. Unfortunately, 1959 Mao Zedong banned baseball in China and disband all of the teams. Baseball activities restarted in 1974 when the Cultural Revolution ended. China is also very good at baseball.

Hopefully (nearly sure)

they will gradually become a very good team! ;)

Anyway, you can already see in this video that China as the means to be a great team :D

Chinese Figure Skating

Hi there!

Let’s talk about a new sport! Figure Skating! Have you ever tried it? I am sure you have already gone to the skating ring in the old town ;)

There is not much to talk about this sport because it is kind of new to China. However, if you need to remember something from this post, remember these names:

Shen Xue (woman) and Zhao Hongbo (man)! Even though it is difficult to remember their names, you need to know that they have won 3 world championships and a gold metal in the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010.  It is very impressive, since this is an unknown sport in China.

Chinese Chess

Let’s look at a little bit of the history of this sport. Chess first appeared in China in the 6th century BC.  It was called Go back then. But now, let’s come back to present.  In 2006, China placed 2nd in the Chess Olympiad which were held in Turin, Italy! A great performance! There is also a kind of Chinese chess, called Xiangqi.  It is played in the streets by most of the people! As you see in the picture on the top right.

I really need to talk to you about this girl that you see. She looks like a normal young girl, but she is the youngest ever person to become Grandmaster! I would not like to play against her! ;)

She is currently the women’s World Chess Champion, at the age of 16!

Crazy records for China!

Besides, check this video and if you get chinese chess, tell me! ;)

Chinese Badmington

Let me introduce you to badminton in China.  Badminton is a sport that I appreciate.

Because it is a sport which does not require very expensive equipment like golf, where you really need to have a lot of money, a lot of people can play it all around China.  The sport has become famous.

There are some “stars” already in China. Here is the best player of badminton in China, Lin Dan.  He is the only one in the whole history of badminton to have won successfully 3 World Championships (2006, 2007 and 2009).

What do you think? ;)

Amateur leagues exist across China already.

He is so good…

Today, I am going to talk to you about another very appreciated sport in China, tennis! It is slowly growing in China. Who knows? It might become the favorite sport in China! China already has a very good player, a woman that you might know.  She is ranked as No. 7 in the world according to the Women’s Tennis Association singles rankings, and she won 4 WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) and 19 ITF (International Tennis Federation)…

I am talking about Li Na, of course! Don’t you think she is good?

In this video, she is playing in the up-part of the court:

Chinese soccer

Let’s talk to you about the no.1 favorite sport in China, soccer!

The Men’s National Team is ranked 87th in the world, and Women’s National Teams ranked 13th. Women are better than men in this country!

Their first World Cup was in 1982, they even failed in even marking one goal during the group stage.

The most recent event for the Chinese’s soccer, the 26th January 2011,  is that the women are not sure to be participating for the 2012 London Olympic Games. It is sad if they cannot make it because they can make records and, maybe won some medals!

Is the Chinese team fair-play?
